Costa Rica Deep Sea Fishing

Costa Rica Fishing Gulf of Papagayo

Two oceans, beautiful lakes and hundreds of rivers are the best fishing for more species at any time of the year than you will probably find in such a small and easily accessible area anywhere in the world.
Papagayo Fishing
From the capital, San José, fishermen are only 30 to 40 minutes away from the main fishing regions of the Pacific and Caribbean coasts. Two national airlines provide daily service. There is practically no place in the country that can reach between three and six hours of driving. Papagayo Fishing Website Here

Costa Rica’s reputation for its incredible fishing is well justified, but as anywhere in the world, there is no guarantee. Actions will vary with the prevailing seasons and winds, climatic conditions, currents, and other natural conditions at a given time, and the following breakdown should be considered only as a general guide.

COSTA RICA SPORTFISHING: NORTHERN PACIFIC COAST

Cabo Blanco to the Gulf of Papagayo :

Flamingo Beach, with its full-service marina, as well as Tamarindo, Nosara, Samara, and Playa Carrillo, nearby, are the sport fishing centers of this region.

As noted above, fishing will vary according to current conditions, but this is how it generally works for the most popular species. Watch for the winds north of Cabo Vela from around December to mid-May.

Marlin: fished every month of the year, exceptionally from mid-November to early March, then slowed a bit from April to early June, and then reached a peak in August and September.

Sailfish: it is fished year-round, being the best season from May to August. They could begin to dissipate in September, the slowest months being November.

Tuna: the peak months are generally from August to October, but when everything fails, tuna is always available at any time of the year. Yellowfin and bigeye tuna weighing more than 350 kg are sometimes found within the Catalina Islands, 30 minutes or less from the beach, while 12-20 pound banks are often found under birds and the dolphins, spread over several hectares outside.

Dorado: better known as the dolphin, these colorful players are the most abundant from late May to October when seasonal rains flood the rivers that cause debris, forming debris lines near the shore where they rest. Pass a floating log and you will probably catch a Gold.

Wahoo: Taken in limited quantities throughout the year, the best result begins when the rains begin in May, peaking in July and August. Most are captured around rocks and islands, but you can also catch one.

Rooster: Available all year round, but more are captured in the Papagayo Bay area and around the islands from October to March.
